This plugin complements the Change Any Fact Tag plugin, as it is designed to change a specific example of a Fact to a different Fact, rather than changing selected instances of a defined tag in bulk to a new value.
All linked records, such as Sources and Media, are moved across to the new Fact. If there are details that make the two Fact types incompatible with each other, such as populated Witness roles not existing in the new Fact, this is highlighted to the user, and a correction invited.
There are various types of Fact available in Family Historian, and the change is permitted wherever it is technically possible.
- “Individual” Facts cannot be converted to “Family” Facts, or vice versa.
- “Events” (which cannot have a value in Family Historian due to its interpretation of the GEDCOM standard) can be freely converted to “Attributes” (which can have a value), but the user is warned about the different fact type.
- “Attributes” can also be converted to “Events”, and any existing attribute value is retained as a local fact note.
Before opening the plugin, ensure that the Individual whose Fact is to be changed is displayed in the Property Box. To change a Family Fact, either partner can be selected.
The plugin has a single menu screen, shown below. Existing Facts for the selected Individual are shown in two separate dropdowns for Events and Attributes. Select the Fact to be changed, and the New Fact dropdowns are populated automatically with all available Facts from the various Fact Sets defined in your Family Historian installation.

Select the required new Fact, and click on OK. If the change is permitted, accept the confirmation message to process the change. In the event of any incompatibilities as described above, you will be told why the change cannot be made.
To undo any changes, close the plugin and select Edit > Undo Plugin Updates from the main Family Historian menu.
